# What happens when gifts sell out

Your free gift is a real product in your store, with real inventory. Here's what Promo Party Pro does when stock runs low or runs out.

## What "available" means

The app only offers gift options that Shopify says are available to buy. A gift variant is available when it:

* Has stock that can be sold online, **or**
* Is set to **Continue selling when out of stock**, **or**
* Doesn't track inventory

The gift product must also be **Active** or **Unlisted** and published to the **Online Store** sales channel.

## When one gift option sells out

If your campaign offers several gift options (variants or products), the sold-out option is left out of the pop-up. Customers choose from what's left.

With the pop-up off, the app adds the first gift option that is still available.

## When every gift option sells out

The campaign stays **Running**, but no gift is offered or added. Customers who qualify simply don't get a gift.

Gifts already in a customer's cart stay there. Shopify's normal inventory rules apply at checkout.

## How you'll know

Promo Party Pro warns you when a gift goes out of stock:

* A **Free gift variant is out of stock** banner on the campaign page
* A notification on your dashboard naming the campaign
* A warning flag on the campaign in your **Campaigns** list

You'll see similar warnings if the gift product is set to Draft or Archived, or removed from the Online Store channel.

## How to recover

Pick one:

* **Restock** the gift. The campaign picks it up again automatically. Customers see it the next time their cart changes.
* **Swap the gift.** Edit the campaign and choose a different gift product or variant.
* **Allow overselling.** In Shopify, set the gift variant to **Continue selling when out of stock**. Only do this if you can still ship the gift.
* **Pause the campaign** until stock arrives.

## Tips to avoid running out

* Check your gift inventory before a big sale. Gift campaigns can move more units than you expect.
* Offer more than one gift option, so one selling out doesn't stop the offer.
* Keep stock in a location that sells online. Stock in a location that doesn't fulfill online orders doesn't count.
