Combining Free Gift Discounts with Other Promotions

Promo Party creates automatic product discounts for your free gift promotions. By default, these discounts do not combine with other discounts, but you can enable combinations to let customers stack offers.

How Free Gift Discounts Work

When you create a free gift promotion in Promo Party, we generate an automatic product discount in Shopify that:

Applies to your designated gift products
Reduces their price to $0.00 when conditions are met
Shows up in your Shopify admin under Discounts

Default Behavior

Combinations are OFF by default. This means:

Customers get their free gift OR other discounts, not both
Shopify automatically applies the best discount for the customer
Most merchants prefer this to protect margins

Consider allowing combinations if you want customers to:

Get a free gift AND use a percentage-off code
Get a free gift AND receive free shipping
Stack multiple promotional offers during sales events

How to Enable

Open your campaign in Promo Party
Click Edit Campaign
Scroll to the bottom of the campaign settings
Find the Discount Combinations checkboxes
Check the boxes for discount types you want to combine with:

Install the App

Search for Promo Party Pro in the Shopify App Store
Click Install from the app listing
Select a plan (free trial available for new installs)

Enable the Theme Embed

Promo Party requires a theme embed to work. The app detects if it's missing and shows a banner with a direct link to fix it.

If you need to do it manually:

Go to Online Store > Themes in your Shopify admin
Click Customize on your active theme
Click App embeds in the left sidebar
Toggle Promo Party Pro on
Click Save

When you return to Promo Party, it will detect the embed is enabled and the warning banner will disappear.

Create Your First Campaign

Click Create Campaign in the upper right of the dashboard.

Set the Schedule

Start time — When the promotion goes live (required)
End time — When it automatically ends (optional)

Most promotions have an end date. If you skip this, you can end the campaign manually later.

Add a Title

Give your campaign a name. This is for your reference on the dashboard—customers won't see it.

Choose a Trigger

The trigger determines when customers qualify for the free gift. You have two options:

Something not working? Here are the most common fixes.

Gift not showing up?

Check these first:

Is the cart total high enough? The gift only appears when the cart subtotal (after discounts) meets your threshold.
Is the campaign running? Check the dashboard to make sure your campaign is active and today's date falls within your start/end dates.
Is the gift in stock? If your gift product is out of stock or unpublished, the promotion won't work. Check that the gift is available for purchase like any other product.
Is the app embed turned on? Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds and make sure Promo Party Pro is toggled on. Hit Save.

Quick test: Try it in an incognito window. If it works there, clear your browser cache.

Gift isn't free at checkout?

This is almost always a discount combination issue.

Here's the fix:

Open your campaign in Promo Party and make sure "Combine with other discounts" is turned on
If the customer is using a discount code, that code also needs to allow combinations. Go to Discounts in your Shopify admin, open the code, and enable combinations.

Both discounts need to allow combining—if either one doesn't, only one will apply.
